What You Should Know Before Choosing Natural Remedies


These days, “natural” is the buzzword on everyone's lips — and it’s easy to see why. People are moving away from chemical-heavy treatments, looking for gentler, more holistic solutions. And I get it — nature has incredible healing power. But here’s the thing most people don’t talk about: just because something is natural, doesn’t mean it’s safe for you. Or that it will even work for you.

Let’s unpack that a little.



🥾 1. One Size Doesn't Fit All


There is no “one remedy cures all” in natural health (or conventional medicine, for that matter). What helps one person might do nothing for the next — or worse, cause unwanted side effects. Each body is unique. Age, weight, lifestyle, chronic conditions, stress levels, even gut health… it all plays a part in how your body responds.

That means your friend’s miracle oil or wonder tea might leave you feeling absolutely nothing — or bloated, itchy, or dizzy.

Listen to your body. It’s always giving feedback — even when the label says “natural.”

⚠️ 2. Natural Doesn’t Automatically Mean Safe

There’s this big myth that if something is plant-based, it must be harmless. But remember, poison ivy is natural too. So is arsenic. And even common natural ingredients can come with warnings.

Take tea tree oil, for example. It’s fantastic for fungal infections and acne — but did you know it can be toxic if swallowed, and hormone-disruptive in high doses? Or licorice root, which can spike blood pressure if you’re not careful.

We’re not trying to scare you off natural remedies — we make natural products ourselves! But the point is: always know what you’re putting into or onto your body, and never assume “natural” means “no side effects.”



📚 3. Do Your Research (Especially If You’re on Medication)

This one’s big. Essential oils and herbal extracts are generally harmless, but they can interfere with medications you’re already on. And that can be serious.

If you’re taking prescribed meds — whether for blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid issues, or depression — always check if a natural ingredient might interact. Even something as common as grapefruit can affect how some meds are absorbed.

Take for example someone suffering with epileptic seizures. Essential oils like rosemary, camphor and eucalyptus, which contain convulsive agents, might actually bring on seizures.

Best practice? Keep a list of the natural products, herbs, or oils you’re using and chat to your healthcare provider about them if you're unsure.

We call it bio-individuality — and it simply means no two bodies work the same. Your liver might metabolize turmeric faster than someone else’s. Your skin might love lavender, while someone else breaks out in hives.

It’s not about what's “good” or “bad” — it’s about what works for you. So give yourself permission to test, tweak, and trust your instincts. Just because it’s natural doesn’t mean it gets a free pass.
